How to Start a Robotics Team

Start a robotics team at your school, club, or after-school program – with the program, the cost, and the sign-up steps in one place.
Team registration happens on myTEAMevents.org. The registration can cost as little as $100, requires only 1 to 3 hours per week, and allows for any adult to coordinate.

Why Start a Team

Any Adult Can Coordinate
A classroom teacher or a parent can lead as the Team Coordinator, with no robotics or technical background needed.

Student-Powered™
Students take the lead in designing, building, coding, and operating the robot, and the Team Coordinator keeps them on track.

A Set Weekly Commitment
Missions teams plan on 1 to 3 hours a week for 6 to 8 weeks, and Blueprint teams 2 to 4 hours a week for 8 to 10 weeks.

Accomplishment From the First Minute
Every program is built so a new team can score in its first minute.

Missions teams plan on 1 to 3 hours a week for 6 to 8 weeks, and Blueprint teams 2 to 4 hours a week for 8 to 10 weeks.

The Sphero Robotics Competition

brings students together in a supportive competition community to compete with robots they design, build, code, and operate—gaining confidence through participation. Teams bring up to two robots to compete head-to-head against other teams on a shared competition field with the top teams moving on to the event finals.

Blueprint Robotics Competitions are:
• Under 19 as of August 31, 2026
• $500 season registration fee for the 2026-2027 season
• Time commitment of 2 to 4 hours a week for 8 to 10 weeks

Blueprint Robotics™ Info

Operating costs are reduced after the first year, because teams reuse the same robots and field every season.

Ways to Keep the Cost Down

A season costs less than the first-year equipment list suggests, for three reasons.

SRC Matching Team Grant
Blueprint teams can apply for $1,299 toward a two-kit purchase worth $2,598, with ground shipping covered. Each registered team can apply for one grant. (one grant per team, unlimited grants per organization)

Online Submission
indi™ Sphero Robotics Mission, BOLT™ Sphero Robotics Mission, and RVR™ Sphero Robotics Mission teams can register for online submission for just $100 per season. Complete Missions at home, at school, or in a club, and submit them for online evaluation.
