Get to Know The Program

The Sphero Robotics Competition brings students together in a supportive competition community to compete with robots they design, build, code, and operate; gaining confidence through participation. Teams bring up to two robots to compete head-to-head against other teams on a shared competition field with the top teams moving on to the event finals.

What Students Learn:

  • Design, build, code, and operate robots with confidence
  • One team can compete with up to two robots, each created to compliment the other for deeper strategy
  • Leverage self-printed 3D parts for infinite design possibilities
  • Compete in head-to-head matches against other teams
  • Showcase coding and robotics skills through Technology Missions
  • The competition progression – win the event finals and qualify for a Championship Event

What Does it cost?

Getting Started

The season registration fee for an In-Person team registration is $500 for the 2026-2027 Season. This provides an exciting way for your team to compete head-to-head with other teams at an event hosted by amazing volunteers. The yearly registration fee includes the cost of entry into multiple events throughout the season.

The equipment costs of the Sphero products will depend on your current on-hand materials. If you do not have the materials needed or aren’t sure, please browse the required equipment and costs below.

The first year can be the largest investment, but the same robots and field are reused season after season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can compete in Blueprint Robotics?

High school students age 18 or younger on August 31, 2026, which means born September 1, 2007 or later. That usually lines up with grades 7 through 12.

Each team needs at least one adult team coordinator and 2-8 students. No one needs technical experience to start.

Students compete two ways. In head-to-head matches, teams play live against other teams. In Tech Trials, one team has the field to itself and scores as many points as it can.

Events combine both, and teams that win the event finals qualify for a Championship Event.
Two Blueprint Robotics Kits. Students design, build, code and operate their robots themselves, and they can use self-printed 3D parts.

A Blueprint Robotics After-School Competition Field and the 26-27 field elements are recommended.
Team registration is $500 for the 2026-27 season and covers entry into multiple events. Kits are a separate cost.

Expect three to four hours a week over eight to ten weeks.

Yes. The Sphero Robotics Competition (SRC) Matching Team Grant covers $1,299 of a $2,598 two-kit purchase, plus ground shipping on those kits, for qualifying teams.

Student-Powered™ means the students do the driving, the coding, and the problem solving. Team Coordinators handle registration, a room, and getting everyone there on the day.

You don’t need a robotics background. Neither does anyone else in the building.
