Organization Definition
What is an Organization?
TEAM Alliance defines an Organization as a school, club, or group that manages one or more teams.
Teams are considered part of the same Organization when they share common elements such as:
- The students on the teams attend the same school.
- Example: A school district has two high schools that want to participate in the Sphero Robotics Competition (SRC). Each high school would be a separate Organization with their own teams.
- The students on the teams are associated with an after-school club that meets in a single location.
- Example: A scout troop meets weekly in-person and wants to compete. That individual scout troop would be an Organization and can register one or more teams. Scout troops that meet at a different location would create a separate Organization for their teams.
How Organizations Are Identified
An Organization is identified by a unique name and physical address. Each Organization is assigned a single Organization number in myTEAMevents.org, and individual teams within that Organization are identified by adding a letter.
Example:
- 12345A: SRC Program
- 12345B: SRC Program
- 12345C: SRC Program
In this example, “12345” is the Organization’s number, and each letter represents a different Sphero Robotics Competition team within that Organization.
If the Organization participates in multiple TEAM Alliance Programs, then the same Organization number is used and letters may be duplicated for those different programs.
Example:
- 12345A: SRC Program
- 12345A: SRM BOLT Program
In this example, the Organization with the “12345” Organization number has a team competing in the SRC Program and the Sphero Robotics Missions (SRM) BOLT Program with the same team numbers.
Important Notes:
- An Organization can only have one Organization number.
- All teams within an Organization use the same Organization number, even if they participate in different TEAM Alliance Programs.
- The Organization number belongs to the Organization, not an individual Team Coordinator. If a Team Coordinator leaves, the Organization and its Organization number remain with the school or after-school club associated with the Organization.
- Changes to an Organization name or address must be approved by TEAM Alliance.
Are TEAM Alliance Programs a Good Fit for Your Students?
TEAM Alliance Programs are designed for groups that believe robotics should be accessible, engaging, and Student-Powered. Our competitions focus on making robotics fun so that students can build confidence in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and develop a lifelong interest in learning and innovation.
These Programs are a strong fit for schools, clubs, and community groups that want to prioritize participation, growth, and positive experiences over highly competitive outcomes. TEAM Alliance fills an important gap in the robotics landscape by offering an environment that is inclusive and welcoming where students can learn, experiment, and succeed at events where having FUN is prioritized.
A core expectation for all participating Organizations is a commitment to our Student-Powered philosophy. This means students take the lead in designing, building, coding, and operating the robots used in competition. Adults play an important role as Team Coordinators, but the work must remain Student-Powered.
Groups that are a good fit for TEAM Alliance:
- Encourage a fun, positive, team-oriented competition experience
- Value inclusion and access for a wide range of students
- Emphasize learning, confidence-building, and enjoyment
- Support student ownership and independence in the engineering process
TEAM Alliance reserves the right to remove Organizations that do not align with these expectations or that operate in a way that undermines the goals of the TEAM Alliance Programs. Our priority is to maintain an environment where all students can feel successful, supported, and excited about STEM.
